Mock Trial

Mock Trial is a competition in which students compete with other schools in a trial. Students play the parts of attorneys, witnesses, bailiff and clerk.

Students will have the opportunity to study court cases, and prepare strategies and arguments for trial. Cases topics are based on important issues that America’s youth currently face. Mock Trial competition requires participants to practice roles, learn about legal concepts and create persuasive arguments.

Through the program, students will be able to gain experience working in our judicial system, develop analytical abilities and communication skills, and gain an understanding of their obligations and responsibilities as participating members of society.

Cases are released in early fall; county competition occurs in late fall or early spring with multiple rounds of trials. The winners of each county competition will move on to the State Finals in March.

The King Mock Trial Team is currently in its 22nd year. Our team won both the 2018 and 2021 Riverside County competitions, and took 3rd place at the state level both years. We have two attorney coaches: Ben Hampton and Amy Zeta. Our teacher advisor is Mrs. Hampton.
