Mrs. Montgomery has enjoyed thirty years in education, having been a mathematics teacher, instructional coach, staff development specialist, university lecturer in mathematics education, and most recently, high school assistant principal. She earned her undergraduate mathematics degree, starting as a freshman at UC San Diego and transferring as a junior to UC Riverside, where she graduated and immediately continued working towards her teaching credential in secondary mathematics. Years later, she returned to UCR to earn her master’s degree in education also at UCR Graduate School of Education. Other experiences she draws upon are a 1994 US Department of Energy Fellowship, grant-writing for various RUSD projects, and advocating for under-represented students to have rich and engaging STEM experiences, to name a few. Mrs. Montgomery has a passion for helping students find out how awesome they are, each in their own way. She lives in the community with her husband Gary, and has two adult children, Doree and Jack, who graduated from Riverside Unified School District and went on to college. In fact, her daughter is a third-grade teacher here in RUSD. She is happy to be back at ML King High School, where she was part of the inaugural teaching staff in 1999! |
