DECA is an international organization that prepares students to be career-ready by teaching leadership skills in marketing, finance, entrepreneurship, hospitality, and management in high schools worldwide. Students can practice communication skills through quick thinking roleplays, test their knowledge through cluster exams, experience job opportunities by partnering with local businesses with written events, and learn about the real world through virtual resources such as the Stock Market Game and Virtual Business Challenge. Students receive the opportunity to compete against each other in these events at many levels including District, State, and International Conferences to win DECA Glass.
Through the organization, students also gain valuable skills in leadership, while broadening their social circle and creating friendships that last a lifetime. Additionally, they have the opportunity to travel to locations such as Anaheim, CA, Atlanta, GA, Orlando, FL, etc., and learn from a wide variety of experienced professionals through competitions and academies at DECA’s international conference.
The MLK DECA chapter participates in various activities through the year including school activities such as Club Rush and DECA Week. Students can also partake in community service through street cleanups and the BSU Food Drive. Fun events such as our socials and end of the year banquet are opportunities to get together with friends and have a good time.
