Model United Nations (MUN) is a simulation of UN organizations (ex. UN General Assembly), where students play the role as an United Nations ambassador and simulate UN Conferences. While acting as a UN delegate, students will be prompted to solve global problems from the perspective and policies of their assigned nation.
Conferences include regional, national, and international competitions. Before the conference, students will work as a team to write a position paper that outlines their assigned country’s policies and perspectives. This position paper will later be presented and caucused—Q&A session and debates—on the day of the conference. During Model UN conferences, students will be assigned into committees or councils, including students from other schools. Each committe’s objective objective is to draft a written resolution, solving the global problem.
Model UN involves substantial researching, public speaking, debating, and writing skills, as well as critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership abilities. By participating in MUN, students will take away invaluable skills and experience for many years to come.
