Martin Luther King High School Project Lead the Way Engineering School was established in the year 2000. For a school to offer this national engineering program, there must be a continuous fiscal commitment, dedicated facility resources, and most importantly dedicated teachers committed to ongoing training to accommodate changes in the engineering industry, a desire to develop rapport with students, and a commitment to student’s academic success. PLTW is a program offered across the United States to all schools who decide to make the commitment, but only a select few make the decision to move forward and Martin Luther King High School is a school that has made the commitment.

MLKHS PLTW Engineering Presentation

The PLTW Engineering Program at MLKHS is proud to offer three different pathways for students to gain first-hand experience in project-based learning to make a decision on a possible post-secondary engineering field.

Engineering & Architecture Pathways

In addition, Martin Luther King High School has worked hard to make sure the engineering classes from the Principles of Engineering level and higher are honors courses and students can earn college credit through the articulation process which provides college credit on the high school transcript.

** King High School engineering students are eligible for articulated credit from Cerritos College. The application process is separate from Riverside City College. Information about Cerritos College articulation is available in the spring. In addition, Project Lead the Way and Cerritos College have an agreement for students who have participated in the PLTW program at their high schools and have successfully completed an engineering pathway. Students who actually attend Cerritos College will be allowed to skip the Introductory Engineering course and start at a higher level their freshman year. Students must earn 85% or higher on both the final exam and the class coursework.

Attention MLKHS Students

If you currently live within the Martin Luther King HS attendance area, you do NOT need a transfer form. You will simply select the appropriate engineering class with your high school registration counselor.
