Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society

OVERVIEW
Rho Kappa is a National Honors society for juniors and seniors that recognizes achievement in the field of social studies and civic engagement. Rho Kappa is derived from two words of semitic origin – “resh” meaning “head” and “kapf” meaning “palm of the hand.” Both these terms symbolize our agreeance that,

“Without knowledge, action is useless and knowledge without action is futile”
– Abu Bakr

Mission Statement
The mission of Rho Kappa at MLKHS is to:
create a culture of civic engagement
serve the community and the student body
cultivate knowledge and passion for social studies
encourage individual growth

“We, MLKHS Rho Kappa, are a civically minded honors society made up of students willing to respectfully address social issues and enact positive change.”

Eligibility Requirements
In order to be qualify for Rho Kappa, candidates must meet the following requirements:
have completed a minimum of 2 social studies courses
have maintained a minimum GPA in your social studies classes of a 3.5
have a minimum overall GPA of a 3.0
have a clean discipline record

Responsibilities / Expectations
Rho Kappa members will be expected to:
Attend meetings
Commitment to academic achievement and integrity
Pay due fees (honor cord)
